Dear Families, Parents and Friends,

Welcome Back, we missed you!!

On behalf of our entire staff, we would like to welcome our fourth and fifth grade students to Nichols! It is with great honor and much enthusiasm that we publish our first newsletter for the 2018-2019 school year. Much planning and hard work has gone into preparing for a successful school year.

Let me begin by introducing myself! My name is Mrs. Courtney Billings and I will be your principal! I am thrilled to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year and I am looking forward to meeting new faces, revisiting with familiar ones, as well as hearing all about your summer adventures! For those of you who have not met me, I have taught 9 years, all of those with Miami Public Schools. This is my first year as an administrator and I couldn't be happier that I am starting it here at Nichols. I am very excited to work together to make this a fabulous new school year!

I would also like to introduce to you our new Dean of Students, Mrs.Pam Chaney. Mrs. Chaney is coming to us from Grove, where she has spent the last 12 years teaching high school science. She is bringing a combined 25 years of education to Nichols. I feel incredibly lucky to have Mrs. Chaney as our new Dean, and am confident she will do great things this year!

Additionally, I would like to offer my sincere thanks and appreciation to our custodial staff. They worked diligently throughout the summer to clean and ready the school.

All teachers and support staff have spent hours preparing materials, creating child-centered classrooms, and reviewing data. The rooms look amazing! Secretaries and office staff have registered new students, put together information packets to be sent home with all students, and organized new materials.

We are very much looking forward to watching the students stream off of the buses and out of cars and to have the hallways filled with the hustle and bustle that has been absent all summer. Old friendships are quickly rekindled and new friendships made. Students swap stories about summer and show off new backpacks and school supplies.

As excited as I am to offer this monthly newsletter, it is the face-to-face interactions that I value most. Please know that we have an open door policy, and welcome any opportunity to meet with you. We are looking forward to our collaboration in providing a safe and nurturing environment as well as a challenging and diverse curriculum.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney Billings

Miami Nichols Upper ElementaryNichols Elementary is an upper elementary consisting of both 4th and 5th grades.

We have approximately 375 students, 22 certified staff and 18 support staff.

The tardy bell rings at 7:50, & students are considered tardy if they arrive after. The North doors near the circle drive stay open for drop-off until 7:50. At that time, the doors are locked & students are required to check in at the main office. We will have breakfast in the classroom, and students will eat and work on morning work. We will have two lunches this year: 4th grade lunch will be from 11:45-12:15 and 5th grade will be from 12:25-12:55. School is dismissed at 3:05.

Our offices are on the south side of the building. We ask that all parents and guests check in at the office & receive a visitor's badge.

Nichols students are the best!
