‚ÄčThis Week in Music class...

January 28 - February 1
Music students are having a blast learning recorder!  Ask your student to show you the notes they have learned.  4th graders have been working on their first two notes, B and A.  5th graders have began a Rhythm unit this week.  This unit introduces them to the music style, Reggae.  We have also learned to count and perform eighth/sixteenth note combination rhythms.

November 26-30
4th grade students have spent this week finishing up their "Singing" unit.  Students explored their head and chest voices while playing a game of "Voice Detective." We used our bodies to demonstrate our newest interval, the octave.  Students also spent time counting out octaves and other smaller intervals on the mallet keyboards.
5th grade students have been working very hard to prepare their holiday program!  The program is at the Coleman Theater on Tuesday, December 4th.  5th grade students should arrive at the Coleman by 6:15pm that evening. The program begins at 6:30pm.  It will definitely put you in the holiday spirit!

November 12-16
4th grade students, great job on the Veteran's Day program!  It's now time for 4th graders to settle back into our music curriculum and learn about intervals.  5th grade students are hard at work putting the finishing touches on their holiday program.  The 5th grade will be held at the Coleman Theater on Tuesday, December 4th at 6:30pm.  Also, if your child is interested in auditioning for honor choir, make sure you sign and turn in the commitment form before auditions.  If you need a new copy of the commitment form, I have placed a link to the form in the "useful links" section of the website.

 November 5th - 9th
The 4th grade Veterans Day program is next week!  The 4th grade students are ready and we hope to see you at our program on Monday, November 12 at 1:30pm in the Nichols cafeteria.  5th grade students are continuing to prepare their program.  The 5th grade holiday program will be held at the Coleman Theater on Tuesday, December 4th at 6:30pm.  Look for information about the holiday program and honor choir to come home on the 12th of November!

October 29th - November 2nd
5th grade music students are beginning to learn choreography for a portion of their holiday program.  4th Grade students are spending music class running through all the details of their Veteran's Day program.  Both programs are sure to entertain!

October 22nd - 26th
5th grade students are in the final stages of learning parts and lyrics for their holiday program.  4th grade students are beginning to combine the music for their program with the speaking parts.  It's all beginning to come together!

October 15th - 16th
Both 4th grade and 5th grade music students are enjoying a rhythm review activity in celebration of the Fall season!

 October 8th - 12th
5th grade students have begun preparing for their holiday program.  Lyrics for their music can be found in the photo gallery. 5th graders have also been learning about the four adult singing voices: soprano, alto, tenor, and bass.  This week we learned about the bass clef staff.  Ask your student if they remember the line and space helpers for the bass clef!

4th grade students are hard at work preparing their Veteran's Day program.  The program is Monday, November 12th at 1:30pm in the Nichols cafeteria.  Speaking parts are going out to two students from each class this week. You can find the lyrics for the 4th grade program music in the photo gallery.
